    I am trying to find the William James Hoge and wife Zenobie Shirley (Middlebrook) moved to Mexico in abt. 1900. At some point the children moved to Pima County, Arizona . I can not find any record of William Jame and his wife Zenobie leaving Mexico. Several names come up to where they lived,Sonora, Coabinila,Puedras Negras, etc. I hope you can help me with this search.
    thank you

      Geneva,
      The names of Hoge and Middlebrook aren’t familiar “Colonies” names. And if the Hoge’s lived in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, they probably wouldn’t have had much contact with the Mormon Colonies located in Chihuahua. Family Search shows a James William Hoge being born in Monclova, Coahuila and being drafted into World War II at Ajo, Pima County, Arizona.

    I grew up in the area of Colonia Pacheco and knew some of the latest colonists before they all moved out, or passed away. My father, now 93 used to tell me a lot of stories about these people, he was friends to many of them in that area of the sierra as well as Colonia Juarez.
    There are a number of places in that area with names like: Ojos de Pratt, Cerro Scott, Arroyo de Less, El Willy, Rancho Steven and many others. My question always been, Who were these people, and why were these places named after them?
    Maybe you have an idea.
    Thank you.

    Just stumbled on this site – awesome stories! I’m a descendant from lots of colonies families- Skousens, Macdonalds, Whettens, Beecrofts, Taylor’s. My grandpa Loren LaSelle Taylor was bishop for many years. I love to read their stories and I’m currently writing the memories of my grandparents into a keepsake book.

      Hello;
      I’m looking for information about my great grandfather who’s name was Modesto Taylor. I am not sure who his parents were but he was born around the 1880s. He married Carmen Garcia. Please let me know if you have any information.

      Thank you,

      Josie

    I am still trying to locate the items taken from the demise of the Apache Kid and two other Apaches on November 11, 1900. It is stated they were either given to the Mexican officials in Casas Grandes; or the saddle and items were on display at the Academia Juarez; or who knows? There is an account of this event in the February, 2019 issue of True West magazine. Owen Woodruff and Anthony Ivins are quoted as to what went down that day. Also Pratt Brown. There were binoculars, guns, knives, beads, crosses, bows and arrows taken. Thomas Allen and Martin Harris were the two men who encountered the Apache Kid band.

    Any information on this event or photos from that era would be appreciated. Contact Lynda A. Sanchez
    at Box 67, Lincoln, New Mexico 88338 or 575 653-4821

    Mil Gracias.

    Brother Hanns (and his son Jorge), Brother James, and Brother Theodore…. I am thinking that they all share a passed away date in mid 1912, just after the exodus in the mountain ranges West/Southwest of Colonia Juarez… do any of these names ring a bell? Is anyone curious as to why I would specifically be asking about them? Who were they, and why were they left up there post exodus?
